At Washington Park Chiropractic, our prenatal chiropractor team includes Webster Technique certified practitioners and members of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), making us uniquely qualified to support women through every stage of pregnancy. Supportive Prenatal Chiropractor Care for a Healthier, More Comfortable Pregnancy
Our doctors use standard, diversified techniques (and light force when necessary) to help you through every stage of your pregnancy.
The Webster Technique is specifically geared towards creating a neutral pelvis and therefore decreasing the incidence of pelvic torsion and creating an environment for optimal fetal positioning. Chiropractic care during pregnancy is intended to promote a healthy pregnancy and an uneventful labor and delivery.

Kinesiology Taping for Pregnancy Support
Kinesiology Taping during pregnancy can be used in many ways. The “baby belt” application provides a lot of relief for pubic bone and lower abdominal pain. It makes sleeping during pregnancy more comfortable and makes it easier to move. In general, this taping application is much more comfortable than a typical belt worn during pregnancy. It also eases rib and belly pain with sitting. Explore our prenatal taping videos in our video resource library.

Manual Therapy During Pregnancy
Many of our sports-specific manual therapy techniques are very effective during pregnancy. Our doctors often introduce the Graston Technique or Myofascial Release to address soft tissue pain, including rib pain, groin pain, hip pain, glute pain or any other muscle or ligament pain that may creep up during the adventure that is pregnancy.
Our goal is to keep our fit, prenatal patients as comfortable and active as possible. We want you to truly enjoy every aspect of being pregnant.

Discover the Benefits of Prenatal Massage
Prenatal bodywork is similar to Swedish Massage, with a focus on easing discomforts associated with pregnancy, such as water retention, swelling, backaches, leg cramps, and hip pain. It improves skin’s elasticity and eases mental and physical tension. Washington Park Chiropractic utilizes a special Prenatal Massage table that features cutouts for the belly and breasts. The table also features an adjustable sling under the belly cut-out to offer full support to the belly.
With this Prenatal Massage table, it’s finally possible for the mother-to-be to relax comfortably in a face-down position during massage therapy. This innovative table is the result of extensive research and development by nurse-midwives, massage therapists, and engineers. We also utilize a wedge that allows the mother to be able to lay on their back in an upright position. When it gets close to the end of your pregnancy, our massage therapist can do a special induction massage that includes trigger points and essential oil blends.

Holistic Support for Pregnancy: Prenatal Acupuncture
Acupuncture is very helpful to the expectant mother who may be experiencing imbalances like morning sickness, constipation, heartburn, back pain, carpal tunnel, etc. But more importantly it is used to support both the mom and baby through each stage of growth and development to ensure the placenta and, thus, the baby are getting proper blood flow and nutrients. In the later stages of pregnancy, acupuncture can be used to help turn breech babies and prepare mom and baby for labor and delivery.
Postpartum treatments are also very beneficial for replenishing mom. Growing a baby, giving birth, and breastfeeding are very depleting to the body, and acupuncture can help to replenish the energy and fluids of the body as well as help with any issues with milk production and flow.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
Yes! Prenatal chiropractic care is not only safe but also highly beneficial for pregnant women. At Washington Park Chiropractic, our practitioners are Webster-certified and members of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), ensuring that you receive expert care tailored specifically for expectant mothers.
One of the key techniques we use is the Webster Technique, which focuses on reducing spinal nerve stress, maintaining balance, and improving fetal positioning. By addressing misalignments in the spinal column and pelvis, chiropractic adjustments help alleviate common pregnancy discomforts such as lower back pain, pelvic pain, and sciatica.
As your baby grows, your shifting center of gravity places additional strain on your nervous system and posture. Regular chiropractic care ensures that both the mother and developing baby experience a healthier pregnancy with improved mobility and reduced discomfort.
If you have specific concerns, our healthcare providers are happy to coordinate with your OB-GYN or midwife to ensure a safe and seamless prenatal care plan.
How often should I see a prenatal chiropractor?
The frequency of prenatal chiropractic care depends on your individual needs, current health status, and stage of pregnancy. In the early stages, many women visit their prenatal chiropractor once or twice a month to establish pelvic balance and maintain spinal alignment as their body begins to adjust.
As pregnancy progresses, particularly in the third trimester, weekly or biweekly chiropractic adjustments can be highly beneficial. During this time, your pelvis shifts significantly, and intrauterine constraints can affect fetal positioning. More frequent chiropractic care helps maintain posterior positions, ease pain, and reduce spinal nerve stress, ensuring a comfortable pregnancy and a smoother birth experience.
Each pregnancy is unique, and our Webster-certified chiropractors will develop a customized treatment plan based on your symptoms, activity level, and overall health.
Can chiropractic care help with labor and delivery?
Yes! Prenatal chiropractic care plays a significant role in preparing the body for a healthier gestation, labor, and delivery. One of the primary benefits of regular adjustments is demonstrating pelvic balance, which creates an optimal environment for fetal positioning and reduces the risk of intrauterine constraint.
Studies show that many women who receive prenatal chiropractic care experience shorter labor durations and a reduced need for medical interventions such as C-sections or forceps delivery. This is because proper spinal and pelvic alignment leads to more efficient contractions, better nervous system function, and improved biomechanics during labor.
Additionally, chiropractic adjustments help manage pain leading up to birth by alleviating lower back discomfort, sciatica, and hip misalignment. By working with your prenatal chiropractor, you can enhance your body’s natural ability to adapt to the demands of pregnancy, labor, and postpartum recovery.
What are the benefits of prenatal massage?
Prenatal massage therapy is a powerful complement to chiropractic care that helps relieve the physical and emotional stressors of pregnancy while promoting overall prenatal care.
One of the most significant benefits of prenatal massage is reducing swelling (edema), which occurs due to increased fluid retention and circulatory changes. Massage stimulates lymphatic drainage, helping reduce swelling in the feet, ankles, and hands.
Additionally, prenatal massage provides relief from pain in the lower back, hips, and sciatic nerve by reducing muscle tension and improving pelvic balance. It also enhances circulation, which ensures that both the mother and developing baby receive essential oxygen and nutrients.
At Washington Park Chiropractic, we use specialized prenatal massage tables with belly cut-outs, allowing pregnant women to lie face-down comfortably for maximum relaxation. Many of our patients find that prenatal massage improves sleep quality, reduces stress hormones, and enhances overall mood and well-being.
As your due date approaches, our therapists offer induction massage, which utilizes trigger points and essential oils to naturally encourage labor progression when your body is ready.
How can prenatal acupuncture support my pregnancy?
Prenatal acupuncture is a natural and safe method for supporting a comfortable pregnancy while alleviating symptoms such as nausea, fatigue, back pain, headaches, and insomnia. Many pregnant women turn to acupuncture to help with morning sickness in the first trimester, as well as to relieve joint pain, heartburn, and swelling as pregnancy progresses.
Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body to enhance circulation, balance hormones, and promote relaxation. In later pregnancy, acupuncture can also help reposition breech babies and prepare the body for labor by reducing pelvic tension and stimulating uterine activity.
After birth, postpartum acupuncture can aid in energy restoration, hormonal balance, and milk production. Many expectant mothers also find that prenatal acupuncture reduces postpartum anxiety, depression, and physical fatigue, making it an excellent tool for postnatal recovery.
At Washington Park Chiropractic, our acupuncturists specialize in prenatal and postpartum care, ensuring safe and effective treatments throughout your pregnancy journey.
Do I need a referral to see a prenatal chiropractor?
No, you do not need a referral to visit a prenatal chiropractor! At Washington Park Chiropractic, we welcome new patients at any stage of pregnancy, whether you are in your first trimester and looking to maintain spinal health or in your third trimester, seeking pain relief and improved labor preparation.
While some OB-GYNs and midwives recommend chiropractic care as part of prenatal wellness, you can schedule an appointment directly without a referral. Many health insurance plans cover prenatal chiropractic treatments, but coverage varies, so we encourage you to check with your provider regarding benefits.
Visiting a prenatal chiropractor is a proactive step toward a healthier gestation. Whether you’re looking to relieve back pain, pelvic discomfort, or sciatica or simply want to establish pelvic balance for an easier birth, our experienced healthcare providers are here to help.
