What to know if you've been in a car accident

Chiropractic care, massage therapy and acupuncture can be an important part of your healing from car accident injuries. Injuries can be very serious or fairly mild. If you believe that your injuries are serious we recommend seeking a medical evaluation at the Emergency Department. Our office is the next best place to start if you are wondering how to handle your car accident injuries. Our doctors are experts in soft tissue and other injuries often seen after a car accident. We can order x-rays, MRIs and any other diagnostic tests you might need. We will set up an effective treatment plan and help you manage chiropractic, massage, acupuncture or any other adjunct treatment you might need.

How to Pay for Your Care After an Auto Accident

Your treatment doesn't have to wait on a claim. Here are your options in Colorado, in the order we recommend using them.

Use Your MedPay First

MedPay (medical payments coverage) is part of your own auto insurance policy. It is not the other driver's policy.

Available whether you are at fault or not at fault.
Using MedPay does NOT raise your premiums.
If you have it, this is the first resource to use for your care.

Attorney Lien (only if not at fault)

We provide your treatment now, so you don't have out-of-pocket expenses while you heal. Your balance stays open as a lien, and your attorney pays it from your settlement when your case resolves. Our care comes out of the settlement check at the end. A lien requires that you are represented by an attorney.

Best together: Use MedPay first, then a lien to cover any additional care that costs more than your MedPay covers.

Paying out of pocket and billing the other driver's insurance yourself

HOW IT WORKS
     No attorney is involved.

You pay for every visit yourself, as             you go.
You send your bills and records to             the other driver's insurance and ask         to be repaid.

WHY WE STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST IT
The other insurer doesn't pay until your claim        is finished, so you may wait a long time to           see any money.
It decides after you've paid whether your              care was medically necessary. *If it says no,          you keep the bill.*
You carry all of the cost and all of the risk,              with no attorney working for you.

We do not offer this while MedPay or an attorney lien is available to you. We only consider it after those options are not available or in at fault cases, and we'll review the risks with you first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I see a chiropractor after a car accident, even if I don't have pain?

Yes! It's common for symptoms like neck pain, back pain, headaches, and stiffness to develop hours or even days after a car accident. Adrenaline and the body's initial stress response can temporarily mask discomfort. Getting evaluated early can help identify injuries, establish a baseline, and determine whether treatment is needed.

What types of injuries can chiropractic care help with after a car accident?

At Washington Park Chiropractic, we commonly evaluate and treat injuries such as:

  • Whiplash and neck pain

  • Lower back and mid-back pain

  • Headaches related to neck injuries

  • Muscle strains and soft tissue injuries

  • Joint stiffness and restricted mobility

  • Shoulder and hip pain

Our goal is to help reduce pain, restore mobility, and support your recovery so you can return to your normal activities.

How soon after a car accident should I schedule an appointment?

We recommend getting evaluated as soon as reasonably possible, even if your symptoms seem minor. Some injuries take time to become noticeable, and an early examination can help establish a clear picture of your condition.

If you experience severe symptoms such as loss of consciousness, worsening headaches, confusion, weakness, or significant neurological changes, seek immediate medical attention.

What should I expect during my first auto injury appointment?

Your first visit includes a thorough consultation and examination to better understand your accident, symptoms, and injuries. We'll discuss how the accident occurred, review your medical history, and assess your movement, muscle function, and areas of discomfort.

Based on our findings, we'll recommend an individualized treatment plan. When appropriate, we may also coordinate additional imaging or referrals to other healthcare providers.

What treatments are available for auto accident injuries?

At Washington Park Chiropractic, we offer several treatment options depending on your injuries and recovery needs, including:

  • Chiropractic adjustments

  • Therapeutic massage

  • Acupuncture

  • Spinal decompression

  • Shockwave therapy

  • Laser and red light therapy

  • Soft tissue treatments and rehabilitation recommendations

Not every treatment is appropriate for every injury. Our doctors will recommend care based on your examination findings and stage of recovery.

How long does it take to recover from a car accident injury?

Recovery looks different for everyone. Some people improve within a few weeks, while others with more significant injuries may need several months of care.

Factors such as the severity of the injury, previous health conditions, and how your body responds to treatment can all influence recovery time. We'll monitor your progress and adjust your treatment plan as you improve.

Founded in 2006, our practice has evolved over more than 18 years to become a comprehensive health and wellness resource for athletes and families.
