Manual Therapy can be performed in several ways. At Washington Park Chiropractic we use three primary types of Manual Therapy, one is instrument assisted and the other two are done by hand:
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization – The Graston Technique:
Utilizing stainless steel instruments, our doctors treat new and old ligament, muscle, tendon and fascia injuries. Holding one of 7 instruments designed specifically around anatomy, this technique is extremely specific. Most patients experience relief after just 1 treatment but should expect 6 or more for long-lasting results.
Done by hand, Myofascial Release incorporates the movement of each muscle in order to release adhesions that may have build up between layers of muscle, fascia, ligaments or tendons.
TherapyAlso done by hand, Trigger Point Therapy is performed using direct pressure on hyper-irritable areas of muscles that may be causing far-reaching pain or other symptoms.
How do I know what type of Manual Therapy is right for me?
This decision is based on the location of the injury, severity and mechanism of injury. A thorough evaluation will help us determine how to approach the injured area. In many cases a combination of the Graston Technique, Myofascial Release and Trigger Point Therapy.
