The Kingsbury Golf Open
a Fundraiser to Benefit Pancreatic Cancer Research
Hosted by Washington Park Chiropractic
Thursday June 14th, 2018 at 8am
The mission of the Kingsbury Open is to pay tribute to those we have lost to Pancreatic Cancer, and to give hope to individuals and families that are battling this horrific disease. Celebrating the game we love, The Kingsbury Open is about making memories and birdies golfing with our friends, colleagues and loved ones.
Local Charity: The Kingsbury Open has partnered with WINGS OF HOPE for PANCREATIC CANCER RESEARCH, a local charity that donates 100% of proceeds to pancreatic cancer research at the University of Colorado Cancer Center.
Featured Golf Course: We think there is no better way to raise money than by spending the afternoon with friends at the beautiful Golf Club at Bear Dance in Larkspur, CO. The format of the tournament is a scramble.
Our Annual Happy Hour is Thursday, June 7th at 6pm at Alternation Brewing Company! 10% of proceeds go to Wings of Hope for Pancreatic Cancer Research. We will also have an awesome raffle and a beer brewed especially of the occasion!
Remembering Thomas Kingsbury:
The event is founded and dedicated in loving memory to Dr. Lisa Goodman’s dad, Thomas Kingsbury, who was a scratch golfer and someone who found serious joy in playing with found balls. Tom believed a golfer was not defined by his or her equipment or the course he or she played, but by their passion for the game and a desire to continue to improve. A real stickler for the rules, he was a purist. Tom had a natural swing, never tried too hard, but still hit the ball a mile. He was a genuine teacher of the game. Tom was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in February of 2007.
Throughout treatment he stayed on the course. As fatigue set in, he surrendered to riding in a cart when he would normally walk. In August of 2007, Tom played his last round of golf, it was only 9 holes. He passed away two weeks later.
Every time we golf we think about Tom and know he is with us; from tee to green. We hope you will join us to honor his memory and to lend a hand to this important cause.
On June 2nd, 2015 we held the first annual Kingsbury Open. After costs, we raised over $15,000 for the University of Colorado Cancer Center. In September 2015 Dr. Goodman and Kelsey went to the CU Cancer Center and met with Dr. Colin Weekes, Maureen Shul, Rebecca Ferguson and Mark Kochevar to donate our contribution. They also got to tour the labs, watch live pancreatic cancer cells on a microscope and see exactly where the money the Kingsbury Open raised went. This included the state of the art Roche LightCycler that the lab was able to buy because of Wings of Hope for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
On June 6th, 2016 we held the second annual Kingsbury Open. It was another great day at the beautiful Bear Dance golf course, even though there was an afternoon thunderstorm! After costs, we raised $29,000 - (twice what we raised our first year!) for the University of Colorado Cancer Center. We couldn't have done it without our generous sponsors, players, and donators. In January of 2017 we got to go back to the Cancer Center and view the labs again. Dr. Colin Weekes gave us a tour and talked to us about the progress they have made over the last year.
For our third tournament on June 12th, 2017, we decided to move the golf tournament to an 8am start time to avoid the afternoon showers! Thankfully we finally got our year of perfect weather at the beautiful Bear Dance golf course. We raised even more money for the University of Colorado Cancer Center. We couldn't have done it without our generous sponsors, players, and donators. We can't wait for next year!
