Wash Park Chiro Got a K-Laser!

By: Dr. Jace Buzek, DC CCSP

Christmas came early at Washington Park Chiropractic this year! In early December, we invested in a new form of therapy for our patients, the K-Laser Class IV therapeutic laser (K-Laser for short). K-Laser uses specific red and near-infrared wavelengths to increase circulation to problem areas, which ultimately helps to promote healing and reduce pain ( Even better, K-Laser employs various wavelengths and frequencies, so healing can occur at the skin, muscle, tendon, and bone levels. Therefore, treatment efficacy AND efficiency are maximized (and who doesn’t want faster, better results?).

From head to toe, K-Laser can be used to compliment chiropractic and massage by treating a wide variety of conditions. Some less obvious conditions that can be mitigated through K-Laser Therapy include, but are not limited to neck pain, sinus headaches/infections, TMJ, tooth pain, plantar fasciitis, arthritis pain, and sprains/strains. Generally speaking, any condition that involves pain, swelling, spasms, and/or stiffness can be treated through K-Laser Therapy. The best part? Treatments last between 3 and 8 minutes … we weren’t lying when we said faster.

Now that you have read a little bit about the K-Laser, you probably have some questions. We have answers:

What is K-Laser Therapy like? Both the patient and the provider will put on some really cool glasses (to protect our eyes from the laser), program the K-Laser (which looks like a giant pen) to your specific body type and region, place it directly on your skin (so, you’ll want to be sure that you wear clothes that enable us to comfortably treat the area that’s causing you trouble), and move it around the problem area. You might feel the area where the K-Laser is moving back and forth warming up a bit, but it is unlikely that you will feel much more than that.

What happens after a treatment session? Immediately after? We’ll take off our cool glasses (sorry, unfortunately you don’t get to keep them), and you’ll leave with no restrictions. Some patients notice less pain with one treatment, but most of the time we’ll have to schedule a few more for maximum pain relief. K-Laser Therapy treatments are cumulative, and it typically takes an average of 4 to 6 sessions for noted improvement. This is all extremely individualized to the person, condition, amount of time between sessions, whether or not other treatments (e.g., chiropractic, massage) are being used, etc., and these are all things that we’ll take into consideration when we’re working with you to develop your personalized treatment plan.

Is K-Laser Therapy right for me? That’s a great question! We’d love to talk with you more about this exact question. We pride ourselves in the development of individualized treatment plans, and while we think that almost everyone would likely benefit from K-Laser Therapy, we’re more than happy to talk with you about the condition(s) that you’re experiencing to determine if and how K-Laser Therapy will work best for you.

If you have more questions, or if you’d like to talk to one of our doctors or therapists about whether or not K-Laser would be right for you, give us a call (303) 744-7100 or e-mail us at ([email protected]).
